"Over the past fifty years, the United States has understood. It has assisted the
fight against terrorism that Israel has reluctantly been waging. The most modern
American weapons systems have been sold to Israel and paid for with American foreign
aid to Israel. Yet terrorism keeps rearing it's ugly head. A decade ago,
Palestinian boys and girls were throwing stones at Israeli tanks. Having grown up,
these youth are now blowing themselves up in crowded places in Israel. Killing
Jews. Anti-Semitism. Crazy. When will they learn? When will this stop?

"We'd better clean up the mess around Arafat's headquarters. We wouldn't want Mr.
Powell to get the wrong impression. Maybe we could plant some flowers."

Could some Democrats have given Sharon the nod? This "incursion" into the West Bank
has derailed Bush's foreign policy and reduced his unassailable position in the
polls. This may be just what is needed to get a Democratic majority in the
Congressional elections this fall. Then there's the Presidential election in two
years. We could see a President Joe Lieberman.

Maybe President Bush will find a way to transplant his vision of relations between
Mexico and the U.S.A to Israel/Palestine. That would work for everyone.
