This January, I began a rehabilitation program at the Neil Squire Foundation here
in Regina. I'm continuing to do better and yesterday at the gym I very nearly did a full-
sit in the splits! My doctor here has advised me not to do any more hand stands because
he said I have a shunt in my brain and I might have another stroke. We'll see...

I continue to closely observe politics:I watch American politics, finding the
Canadian variety raises my outrage to dangerous levels. You may remember I once told
you about Colin Thatcher, a Saskatchewan Cabinet Minister and son of a former
Premier, who is serving a life term for the axe murder of his ex-wife. (I don't know if
he is actually guilty. But it's true he ISN'T likeable.)When the NDP (the perennial
government of Saskatchewan since 1944) was returned to power in 1992, it began a
witchhunt to destroy its enemies once and for all. Over the past nine years quite a few
members of the former government have been convicted of corruption and sent to
prison. The last two, including the former Deputy Premier (who had been a member of
the Senate of Canada after 1991), were sent up just a few days ago.

Canadians have throughout their history been schooled to repeat the mantra
"Thank God we aren't Americans" whenever they witness some atrocity in the United
States. But they've been upbraided in recent years:There was the Canadian blood
supply fiasco. [Yeah, but the blood DID come from a prison in Arkansas. True, but a
guy from Montréal, who is connected to the Government of Canada, is the one who
bought and sold it.]Last year people drinking "the safest water in the world" started to
die in Walkerton, Ontario. More have been dying this spring in Saskatchewan, after
drinking the water. Some Americans have begun to squawk about illegal immigrants,
drugs, terrorists, and other undesirables finding easy access to the U.S. across "the
world's longest undefended border". [Yeah, but we have Medicare, the best system in
the world. So how come Canada ranked near the bottom of the world's developed
countries in a recent U.N. study of medical care? Oh yeah? Well the government that
INVENTED medicare plans to close down your little hospital in Wakaw, along with all
the rest in rural Saskatchewan!! I know.]Some people are SO touchy...

Canada begins to resemble Mexico! Maybe I COULD have blended into East LA.

Guess Canadians have problems too and those shouldn't be swept under the rug.
My goal most of my life has been to go somewhere more interesting. Guess this is a
pretty interesting place after all! Summer has come, the sun is shining, the birds have
returned, everything is green and the tulips are in bloom. Life goes on. Good people
are helping me and it feels wonderful to be alive. Glad you are well.
