RE: The Law of The Old West

Dear Robert,

After sleeping on it, I have concluded, once again, that I should be thankful that Alport and Annandale have decided not to contest my claim, saving me the trouble of going to court and mopping up the floor with them. Perhaps we should send a letter to their attorney, thanking him for conceding the case to us.

For all I know, Alport and Annandale are barred by law from contesting my claim because it does not fall within the time limits arbitrarily set by legislation. Those poor boys! Their rights seem to have been taken away from them by dastards in the legislature. (Alport and Annandale probably think they won. No. They lost. Their lawyers should go back to law school.) Now if Alport and Annandale want to defend themselves, they will have to sue me. Otherwise they have to shut up and accept what I say along with the consequences.

They can keep the niggardly sum that is fixed by the legislation which protects doctors like them. No matter. There are other consequences.

And maybe they cannot even sue me because of the legislation. There is now a Judgement barring prosecution on this issue. Very likely, if I can't sue them, they can't sue me. Of course if they can sue me, they will have to try the case they have worked so hard to avoid. I win either way.

Good job!

- Morley

P.S.: In The Old West when someone is called out to a gunfight (a.k.a. Trial by Combat), he either shows up at high noon on Main Street wearing a gun, or he gets out of Dodge. That's how it is. That's how it has always been. You can look it up. There they go, slinking out of town in the shadows: losers, bums and cheap crooks.

Men without honour always think they have made a good bargain when they trade something they don't possess (their honour) for money. They may think they have no soul too. But one day they will need theirs.
