| August 20, 1998 Dear Janine, Though saddened when I wasnt able to come to your wedding, my prayers were then, and are now, for you and Darren to enjoy a long, happy and mutually fulfilling life together: a life supported and sustained by your love for him, and his love for you. Love does not save us from life's mishaps, disillusionment, betrayals, and catastrophes, but love does permit us to see what a wonderful place the world is -- so we don't merely endure it. Love makes us truly, reverently, thankful for the life we have, whatever our circumstance. Only love can do this: not riches, youth, strength, beauty, cleverness, fame, popularity or power. These are not condemnable in themselves; they are but a sideshow. Only love makes life worth living. Love transcends space and time, disease and suffering, and even death for those who live on with a loving memory. Loving one makes it possible to love others, and then to love the world: with both its horror and its beauty. Love does make the world go 'round! Not a wish, or a belief, love is a reality: something more real than concrete and steel, yet something mysterious and magical too. Love is not the raging fire; love is a small part of that. Love is a flickering candle flame which, when sheltered in your heart, will light your way, and warm your soul. Your faithful friend, Morley |
